I think I’m on safe ground when I say that most of us as Christians are truth-tellers. We try very hard not to lie. We want our “yes” to mean “yes” and our “no” to mean “no.” Integrity is important to us. That’s not always the case in our culture today or in other cultures, where lying is often considered a necessity. Even so, no one likes to be lied to. No one wants to be led to believe something that is not true.
In our post-modern world, “truth” has been reduced to what is “true for you,” so that there is no absolute standard of right and wrong, true or false. But that in itself is a lie! There is objective truth, even if we have allowed ourselves to believe the lies the world tells us.
Jesus said that Satan is the father of lies. From the Garden of Eden right down to today, he continually lies to us in order to defeat us and to separate us from God. He tells us lies like:
- All people are basically good
- Good people go to heaven
- We all worship the same God
- I can do whatever I want
- My life doesn’t matter
In this two-part audio podcast series, my husband (Rev. Dan David) and I explore ten of the most prevalent lies our culture believes – lies that sometimes even Christians believe.
We shared this message several years ago with our church in Zephyrhills, Florida, but the truths are universal and timeless. Our hope is that these two messages will equip you to respond during these times when people call evil “good” and good “evil.” Lies are prevalent in our culture and some have even filtered into the church, but the truth will set us free.
