PODCAST SERIES: Issues Important to God

While we all realize the salvation of souls and the Lordship of Christ are God’s primary concerns, we discover in His Word that He is also concerned about many of the issues we face as a nation.

For years now I’ve heard Democrat Christians deride Republican Christians for their lack of compassion for the poor and oppressed, while they give their own party a pass on issues like abortion and gay marriage. Both sides of the aisle have their pet issues and emphases, and Christians on both sides believe their issues are the ones that are most important to God. I read a blog by one prominent Wesleyan university professor (back in the early 2000s) where he placed care of the environment above care for the unborn. I have a hard time believing God would see these two issues as being equally important!

No one political party has a corner on “rightness,” but a careful examination of the Scriptures reveals that there is often more than meets the eye for every issue. And there are political candidates that are more in line with God’s priorities than others.

This podcast series attempts to unpack the issues that are important to God and to examine them fully in light of Scripture. My husband Dan David (also an ordained minister in The Wesleyan Church) and I shared this series of messages at our church in 2012, prior to the presidential election that year. We’ve chosen to share these messages with you now because we believe these issues are still important to God. And we Christians have a responsibility to prayerfully consider how to promote the realization of God’s priorities in our society. If these issues are important to God, they should be important to us. And they should influence our involvement in society and politics.
