The following press release from Dr. Jim Garlow and Skyline (Wesleyan) Church in San Diego was written in October but wasn’t widely disseminated to our Wesleyan churches. I’m reprinting here so you can help pray for this world-changing ministry to the world’s leaders. Here’s the press release in its entirety…
Pastor Jim Garlow and Skyline Church in San Diego area have what might be called a “governmental anointing,” having begun works in the US Capitol in Washington, DC., Jerusalem and now the United Nations.
The Skyline Church family has now launched its newest staff member – Congresswoman Michele Bachmann – as the leader of “Skyline United Nations – New York City,” with a special prayer of commissioning before the congregation after which she preached at Skyline on Sunday, October 1.
Garlow has made many trips to the UN over the past three years in an attempt to see how a ministry might be done there. What has emerged is a two-fold ministry: the Wallenberg Fellowship and the Hammarskjold Society.
Congresswoman Bachmann is the Convener of the Wallenberg Fellowship, weekly worship services named after Raoul Wallenberg, the strong Christian Swedish Ambassador who saved the lives of 100,000 Hungarian Jews, and who was murdered by the Soviets at age 36, and who is memorialized directly in front of the UN Building in NYC.
Bachman will also serve as Executive Director of the Hammarskjold Society, a ministry to ambassadors and the diplomatic corps, named after the late Dag Hammarskjold who was a strong Christian who served as the Secretary-General of the UN until his death in a plane crash in 1961 in the Congo. This will consist of highly specialized seminars designed to lay out biblical solutions to national and international problems.
Preceding Skyline’s launch, Skyline’s UN intercession team – assembled from all over the nation, including some from the UN itself – spent two days in focused prayer at Skyline Church in San Diego and two days in focused prayer at the UN in NYC.
Bachman’s first official function in her new role was serving as the official Moderator and Master of Ceremonies for a September 28th three-hour, high-level, 22-member-nation-sponsored event focused on the international tragedy of Human Trafficking held in the UN ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council) Chamber of the UN while the General Assembly was focused on the same topic.
So, what should you do with this information?
- Pray for Michele Bauchmann and her leadership in this ministry. It’s exciting to see a woman in leadership, but she will no doubt come under pressure because of her gender as well as her political affiliation. Pray that she will not become distracted by those who can’t see past those differences. Pray that she experiences an anointing by God every time she steps up to lead worship services or seminars to influence the world’s leaders and their staffs.
- Pray for wisdom as the ministry seeks to “lay out biblical solutions to national and international problems.”
- Pray for an end to human trafficking and awareness of its evils by all countries of the world.
- You might not be called to meet with the world’s leaders, but God has something unique for YOU to do. Pray that He helps you to speak truth to those who can influence your city or state or nation. Think outside the box. Not every ministry is fulfilled in the local church setting. Get out into the world and make a difference wherever God leads you!
