PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SITE IS CURRENTLY UNDER RECONSTRUCTION

Welcome to the Wesleyan Resistance. In an age when society (and sometimes even the church) is publicly resisting biblical values, traditional morés, and political conservatism, we are in desperate need of a “resistance to the resistance.” The Wesleyan Resistance is dedicated to equipping Christians from the Wesleyan/holiness theological perspective to resist the downward spiral of culture and the complacency (and sometimes complicity) of the church. You’ll find on this site articles, podcasts, courses and resources to encourage you to be bold in standing up for traditional Christian (i.e., “biblical”) principles. Don’t let the “Christian Left” silence you! The message of holiness is just as powerful today as ever. And it has always been and always will be God’s requirement of those who are His. Check out The Wesleyan Resistance Facebook page for news articles reflecting the intersection of faith and culture. Your comments are appreciated!

PODCAST SERIES: Principles for Holy Living from the Ten Commandments

Maybe you're like me and you grew up watching "The Ten Commandments" with Charlton Heston every year on Easter weekend. Or maybe you saw the Ten Commandments hanging on a school classroom wall or on a monument outside a courthouse. One way or another, most of us have heard of them. We think of them mostly as a list of activities we shouldn't do (e.g., don't steal, don't lie, don't commit adultery, don't covet, etc.). Somewhere along the line, we got the impression that as long as we didn't do anything bad, we were OK. But the commandments God...

The Legalism Dilemma: Why every generation is allured by checklists

We are creatures of habit. We tend to do the same things over and over and to create mental "checklists" to determine if we're living up to our expectations – or if someone else is. We define and interpret the world around us through those checklists. For example, our mental checklist for being a "good person" might include: being polite, being kind, giving to charity, forgiving others, and helping those in need. When we meet someone for the first time, we will subconsciously apply our checklist to their behavior.  If they fail to say please or thank you, or if...

10 VIDEO COURSES: God’s Plan Unfolded THROUGH THE BIBLE

My book, Through the Bible, was published by the Wesleyan Publishing House way back in 1995. Thousands of Christians in our Wesleyan churches, on college campuses, on military bases, and in FLAME classes for ministerial students have worked through this year-long study. I'm so honored and humbled to have had a part in discipling people through the Word of God. But I've learned a lot since then. And my heart is still stirred to bring to life the most fascinating and transformational book ever written – a book written by God Himself through His faithful servants. I'm just as excited...

Love vs. Law: Is there a “right” response to the illegal immigration crisis?

Few topics are as divisive today as the topic of illegal immigration. Are those who oppose amnesty and DACA "unspiritual," "unholy," and "unloving"? Are those in favor "lawless" and "anti-American"? We have to acknowledge that this is a complex issue that can't be easily addressed in a short Facebook post or tweet or, for that matter, a single blog post. And we also have to acknowledge that there are good, holy, and righteous people on both sides of the equation. Vilifying one another's views isn't helpful and doesn't bring about the unity Christ expects from His church. That being...
